Biographical

Consistent with The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center’s mission statement, I am driven to improve people’s lives through innovation in research, education and patient care.

In 2010, I became board certified in both anesthesiology and transesophageal echocardiography. In the same year, I also completed my fellowship training as a cardiothoracic and vascular anesthesiologist. Despite my extensive involvement as an educator and researcher, my primary appointment at the medical center is a clinical anesthesiologist and I am very passionate about patient care.

I am extremely privileged to be part of an esteemed department, where superior care is expected and delivered on a daily basis. As a member of the Division of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Anesthesia, I augment the anesthesia care provided to our patients during open-heart surgery, heart transplantation, thoracic surgery, electrophysiology procedures, and lung transplantation. I also provide perioperative echocardiographic services for liver transplantation recipients.

Due to my expertise in echocardiography, I recently was able to diagnose a unique case of refractory hypotension during liver reperfusion, due to left ventricular outflow tract obstruction. The diagnostic approach utilized in this case was subsequently drafted into a case report and has since been submitted for publication.

I find the integration of clinical care, education, and research as vital to the advancement of medicine. My passion for providing the best care possible has motivated me to engage further in research activities. My first publication, a case report, was on an infected pacemaker lead that led to functional tricuspid valve stenosis. My first manuscript was on the anesthetic management of patients undergoing subcutaneous ICD implantation. Both publications related transesophageal echocardiography to improved patient outcomes. This ultimately became instrumental to the modification of our current clinical practice. As a result, transesophageal echocardiography is now being implemented for hemodynamic monitoring in all defibrillator/pacemaker lead extraction cases at our institution. We have since seen a marked improvement in our patients’ outcomes.

Further, I am currently collaborating with the hospital’s electrophysiology physicians to initiate a new prospective research study and investigate the safety and efficacy of transesophageal echocardiographic monitoring during lead extractions. Our hypothesis is that similar results will be observed and patient outcomes will be positively affected.

Academic Advising

I provide academic advising to undergraduate students, medical students, residents, and fellows. I have been involved in the meet the doctors program at the Ohio State University, where undergraduate students get to meet physicians for career guidance. Through this program, I have mentored multiple undergraduate students over the years.

I currently serve as the faculty liaison for medical students during their 3rd year cardiovascular anesthesiology clerkship. In this role, I serve as a mentor to the medical students and provide endless hours of career and academic guidance on a monthly basis. I educate the medical students about cardiovascular physiology, thoracic physiology, and transesophageal echocardiography.

I also provide academic advising to the research fellows in the department of anesthesiology who are in the process of applying for residency positions. I have made in impact in this position by guiding our hardworking research fellows to obtain residency positions in multiple medical specialties.
