Anesthesiology: Improving people’s lives through innovation in research, education and patient care.
We in the Department of Anesthesiology have modified the Wexner Medical Center at The Ohio State University mission statement as presented above. It is simple, clear and compelling, and we have made great strides forward to achieve this mission.
Education is the heart of Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center. Our clinicians take extraordinary pride in our training program. The residency program presents a practice management retreat as the residents enter their final year of residency. In addition, we offer ACGME-accredited fellowships in cardiothoracic anesthesiology, critical care medicine, and pain medicine. We also offer fellowships in neuroanesthesia, regional anesthesiology and obstetric anesthesiology. Fellowships represent the pinnacle of post-graduate physician training, and we are delighted to offer these training opportunities at Ohio State.
I am pleased to report that in the arena of patient care, the Department of Anesthesiology has improved our patients’ lives through innovation and a sincere commitment to excellence. Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center provides medical and surgical care that traverses the entire spectrum of medical care. The breadth of services provided requires the highest level of clinical skill among our faculty. We provide preoperative, intraoperative and postoperative expertise every minute of every day at Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center. The growth in clinical volume throughout Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center has created opportunities to add additional skilled practitioners to our department. In recent months, we have added anesthesiologists with expertise in pain management, neuroanesthesia, critical care and cardiothoracic anesthesia, allowing us to continue providing the highest quality care to our patients, and a diverse educational opportunity for our medical students, residents and Fellows.
Our Department, like Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center, continues to experience steady and significant growth in the volume of cases in the operating rooms, in the volume of procedures requiring anesthetic management outside the OR suite, and in the volume of patients requiring obstetrical anesthetic care. Despite the rigorous demands of providing this growth in service throughout Ohio State's Wexner Medical Center, our physicians, house officers, nurse anesthetists, administrative support staff, researchers and students exhibit a sense of teamwork and shared purpose as we carry on the extraordinary work that we do every day.
