"In a time of drastic change it is the learners who inherit the future.
The learned usually find themselves equipped
to live in a world that no longer exists." Eric Hoffer
The Department of Anesthesiology at The Ohio State University Medical Center offers an intensive postgraduate training program. Educational programs and innovative research, in the midst of an exciting clinical atmosphere, provide postgraduate trainees with unique and exciting opportunities. Cooperative efforts with other hospitals within the OSU Health System complement the department’s comprehensive approach to patient care, research and education.
A stimulating mix of diverse clinical training and didactic lectures are provided to train residents in all levels throughout their training. New facilities are connected to state of the art research facilities and provide an environment conducive to a career in research. All CA-1 residents participate in a week introduction to research rotation. This rotation provides a basic understanding of the process of scientific inquiry and provides an excellent foundation for those residents interested in the clinical scientist track in the CA-3 year.
The academic mission is strongly supported by Dr. Daniel Sedmak, who holds the position of Executive Vice Dean, College of Medicine and Public Health and serves as Interim Chair. A recent RRC visit resulted in a four year review cycle as well as an increase in the number of residents per year, per class from 10 to 12 residents.
The department also offers a one-year clinical fellowship in pain management, critical care medicine as well as cardiothoracic anesthesiology.
