National Hispanic Mentor Recruitment Network
Project Dates: 2004 - present
Description: The Interamerican College of Physicians and Surgeons (ICPS) established the National Hispanic Mentor Recruitment Network (NHMRN) in July 1990 to assure continuous and proportional representation of Hispanics in the medical profession and to increase the number of Hispanics in the U.S. Public Health Service/National Health Service Corps. Since its inception, over 2000 Hispanic medical students and more than 700 Hispanic physicians have participated in the program. When government funding for the program ceased, the ICPS decided to continue the NHMRN utilizing the worldwide web as the basis for establishing the Mentor/Mentee relationship.
